Pilobolus’ “Trips” a surreal journey through people’s connections June 23, 2026 - July 12, 2026. Pilobolus’ “Trips” is surreal, fantastical, sometimes jokey, and more movement and acrobatics than what one is used to in modern dance. “Pseudopodia” my favorite, a fiery red tumbleweed choreographed by Jonathan Wolken and performed by Hannah Klinkman. She twirls and somersaults, her body glows, it indeed seems like a tumbleweed, ethereal, charming.
“Bloodlines” Two women (Hannah Klinkman and Anouk Otsea) one with gray hair (though she is really a young blonde!), entwined, crab-walking and twisting, connected as mother and daughter, as red leaves fall around them (created by Renée Jaworski and Matt Kent). Appealing, and it’s nice to see two women dancing in an asexual manner.
“Walklyndon” six dancers in colorful boxer shorts grasping each other, avoiding each other, weird then finally surreal again with fake fights, bodies twisting over bodies. “Flight” is a fantasy with dancers in aviator caps, a woman with a paper airplane, then dancers return all holding with planes on sticks.
“Particle Zoo” back to twisting jumping acrobatics, bodies jumping over bodies All the “Trips” pieces are trips in your mind as well as on stage, in the typical Pilobolus spirit of playful fun and imagination.
